Welcome, Friend, to your monthly connection to Cook Children's stories, donors and our Promise.

North Texas Giving Day: Sept. 13
Giving Feels Good
As we enter the final 19 days of our capital campaign, we want to make sure YOU are part of our historic expansion effort!
Many of you receiving this e-mail have already committed to the future of Cook Children's with a gift to the campaign, and for that, we thank you!
If you have not made a gift to the campaign, now is your chance to join the party! On Thursday, September 13, 7 a.m. to midnight, gifts of $25 or more made to Cook Children's through DonorBridgeTX.org will multiply. As part of North Texas Giving Day, these gifts will receive a portion of the $1 million in matching funds available. So, Get Up & Give on September 13 and let North Texas know that you support Cook Children's!
Your gifts to Cook Children's on North Texas Giving Day also help us secure The Morris Foundation challenge to raise $4.5 million by October 1, completing our $75 million capital campaign. When that goal is met, The Morris Foundation will donate an additional $500,000, bringing their total support of the campaign to $2.5 million.
No matter the size, your gift makes a difference in the lives of the children we serve each and every day!
Donor Spotlight: Linbeck
A cold call that made history.
In 1985, Linbeck made a cold call to Cook Children’s expressing an interest in becoming the builder for the upcoming expansion project. They landed that job, and Linbeck has served as the general contractor for every project that has followed, including our current expansion campaign. They are not only the builder of Cook Children’s, but also personal friends and family.
Throughout the current construction process, patient photos were hung on drywall and posts, reminding the workers who they were building a home for. Certain times were designated for construction noise, coinciding with the “noisy times” in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) so as not to disrupt the routine of the patients and families. Recognizing that they are part of something great, the Linbeck Foundation was the first to financially support the capital campaign that would nearly double our main campus’s square footage.
In addition to participating in patient events at the medical center, hosting a toy drive and volunteering, the employees of Linbeck conducted a “Boots vs. Suits” fundraiser in 2011, raising funds for the current expansion project. This challenge pitted the approximately 1,000 tradesman that were on the jobsite daily against the “suits” in the offices. By collecting change in 50 orange tool boxes throughout the work area, the “boots” led the challenge, until a strong final push by the “suits”. Altogether, more than $50,000 was collected for the families at Cook Children’s; families that included Linbeck employees, like the electrical engineer who literally worked on one side of a wall, while his granddaughter lay on the other side in the NICU.
