A Parent's Perspective
Finding comfort in a home away from home

We never thought much about cancer before Alaina was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). We had healthy children. That’s the kind of thing that “other” people had to deal with. It blindsided us, derailing our entire reality. Life turned up-side-down, trading routine, knowing what to expect….for chaos and uncertainty. Alaina’s treatment, though common among pediatric ALL cancer cases, was not free from complication.

Chemotherapy, steroids, yucky tasting medications…those are all hard enough to deal with for a two-year-old…but with the surgery, on top of several medical allergies, fevers, and a weakened immune system, it started to feel like the hospital was our home.

Alaina became comfortable at Cook Children’s, so much that she made friends with the nurses and began to show signs of her old “self” again. Calling Cook Children’s our home away from home from time to time wasn’t so bad after all! ~ ChristaCarol Jones, Alaina's mom

Donor Spotlight: The Morris Foundation Commits $2.5 Million
Challenging us to help children in our community

Thermometer The Morris Foundation is a long time supporter of Cook Children's dating back more than 26 years. Whether giving to support our neighborhood clinics, the Save a Smile dental program or The Morris Innovation Center in Children's Health, their support helps us fulfill our Promise to improve the health of every child in our region. Now, as we enter the final phase of our historic expansion effort, The Morris Foundation has once again teamed up with us to make a difference in the lives of the children we treat.

The Morris Foundation knows that Giving Feels Good. When Giving Feels Good was announced to the public in March, The Morris Foundation challenged us to raise $4.5 million by October 1. Once that goal is reached, they will complete our comprehensive campaign with a $500,000 gift, completing their $2.5 million commitment to the $75 million goal. As you can see, we are 95% of the way there. Our message is simple: Giving feels good.

We know that you, our friends, will help us reach this goal by spreading the word of how Giving Feels Good and making your gift today to support Cook Children's. Many of you have already helped, and for that, we thank you! With each dollar raised, we are one step closer to meeting The Morris Foundation challenge.

ChildLifeZone

The new Child Life Zone opened to patients June 11, but some patients got a sneak peek May 15 when Garth Brooks & Troy Aikman helped us dedicate this new treatment free space.

May is for Miracles was a huge success. Final numbers are still being tallied, but thanks to you, we have raised more than $546,000 for Cook Children's.
